Overview
Surah Al-Fātiḥah opens the Qur’an and lays down its foundation in a clear and direct way. Though short, it brings together the core of the message, belief, worship, accountability, and guidance. It begins with praise of Allah, recognising Him as the Lord of all creation, full of mercy and complete authority. This sets the tone of faith with gratitude, humility, and awareness of who Allah is.
The Surah then turns to the reality of the Day of Judgement, reminding us that life has purpose and that every action returns to Allah. Mercy and accountability stand together, shaping a balanced and conscious way of living. At its centre is a clear declaration, we worship Allah alone and rely on Him alone, followed by a sincere request for guidance to the straight path.
It ends by drawing a clear line between the path of guidance and the paths that lead away from it. In just seven verses, this Surah acts as the opening, the summary, and the compass of the entire Qur’an.
